Under this assumption, increasing availability through improved maintenance should lead to higher utilization and, consequently, greater production. Nevertheless, in real underground operations, equipment may remain available but not fully utilized due to issues such as lack of work areas, insufficient operators, limited services (energy, water, ventilation), or transportation constraints. This disconnect generates uncertainty in operational decision-making because it becomes difficult to determine whether productivity losses are driven mainly by maintenance failures or by operational inefficiencies. For this reason, it is necessary to analyze the relationship between availability and utilization through the concept of operational elasticity, which allows quantifying how sensitive utilization is to changes in availability and identifying whether operational conditions prevent availability from being converted into effective production. 3.
