In other words, the problem is not a lack of data, but the fragmentation of data. The opportunity lies in bridging these silos to tap into the latent value of existing project information. 2. Data-Driven EPC Execution Framework – Overview This paper proposes a framework to improve the Execution of EPC projects by capitalizing on the abundant data currently being produced by owners and contractors in projects. The framework is structured into five sequential phases that build on each other by incrementally integrating, visualizing and leveraging data to generate insights supporting project decision making and long-term knowledge organization and is divided as follows: 1. Systems Integration & Data Centralization – Integrate disparate project systems and establish a sole source of truth. 2. Automated Dashboards & Stakeholder Visibility – Turn integrated data into dynamic, user-specific dashboards and alerts for decision-makers. 3. Historical Data Capture for Project Trends & Forecasting – Continuously capture and analyze time-series data to identify trends and feed predictive models (e.g., AI forecasting). 4. Capture for Future Use (Knowledge Management) – Archive project data, metrics, and lessons learned to inform future projects and build benchmarks. 5. Enterprise Analytical Tool (Portfolio Analytics Platform) – Scale the approach to an enterprise level, enabling portfolio-wide analytics and continuous improvement, under a strong governance structure. The next five sections will explain each phase in detail, including the actions required, the underlying data flows and technologies, and the expected outcomes. 3. Phase 1: Systems Integration and Data Centralization Phase 1 is the foundation of the entire framework, focusing on dismantling data silos and building a unified data environment. Without integrated data, none of the subsequent steps can function effectively. The objective is to identify all critical project data sources and connect them into a single centralized repository (often referred to as a project data lake or common data environment. All stakeholders should be able to trust that the integrated database (or data platform) contains the latest information from each discipline.
