4. Development and Data Collection To validate the proposed hypothesis, an applied research approach was undertaken. The study explored and practically developed how each VDC component, together with the application of constructability, manufacturability, and RAM (Reliability, Availability and Maintainability) analysis techniques as value-improving practices, supported by 4D BIM usage, contributed to the design processes from the Basic and Detailed Engineering stages in the project “Replacement of the CJ412 Primary Crusher and Coarse Ore Bin” during the Copper Concentrator Plant Shutdown No. 01 at SMEB. Topic 1: VDC Implementation Plan Brief Project Introduction Replacement of one CJ412 Primary Crusher and Coarse Ore Bin at Copper Concentrator Plant No. 01 at the El Brocal Mining Unit (SMEB). The scope included the development of Engineering, Procurement, and Construction of Civil Works, Mechanical, Electrical, Piping, and Instrumentation Installation during the Plant Shutdown from 7th to 21st May 2021. What does success look like for the project? Ensuring project delivery without accidents during the Plant Shutdown from 7th to 22nd May 2021, achieving satisfaction from the user area (Maintenance Superintendency) equal to or greater than 95% upon commissioning of the project for Operations and Maintenance (O&M), and completing capitalisation before 30th June 2021. For the purposes of this study, the intermediate milestone was the completion of Basic and Detailed Engineering before 30th November 2020. What challenge(s) could stand in the way of project success? • Deficiencies in the development of Detailed Engineering due to the absence of an awarded Contractor and Subcontractors for the construction works during the Plant Shutdown. • Inadequate planning of works prior to the Plant Shutdown. • Work interruptions due to unidentified clashes and physical space constraints with other Contractors. • Managing change to implement a new project management methodology as early as possible, involving all key stakeholders for its success: User (Maintenance Superintendency), Client (Projects Superintendency), Engineering Consultant, Equipment Supplier, Contractor, Subcontractors, etc. How is VDC Expected to Help Solve the Problem? This implementation aims to demonstrate a better way to manage projects by comparing the current project management process map with a newly proposed management approach. It seeks to contribute to effective collaboration among key stakeholders in designing a construction process (Constructability) that is reliable, safe, and operable.
