CASE HISTORY Nº4 - RECOVERY OF ECOSYSTEM SERVICES CONTAMINATED BY ENVIRONMENTAL LIABILITIES FROM MINING ACTIVITIES AT THE FORMER PUSHAQUILCA MINING UNIT, PROVINCE OF PALLASCA, ÁNCASH, PERU. 2.1 Background The former Pushaquilca Mining Unit is in the region of Ancash, district of Pampas, province of Pallasca. The altitude range of the project varies between 4,000 and 4,220 msnm. The 35 Mining Environmental Liabilities (MEL) of the former "Pushaquilca" include chimneys, shafts, trenches, mine waste, tailings, among others. The purpose of the project was: Remediate areas affected by former mining operations at the former Pushaquilca Mining Unit, restoring environmental quality conditions as much as possible in line with the environmental conditions of the area of influence, mitigating negative impacts on the health of the population, and improving the environment.
