159 Figure 9 - An automatic control and measurement point diagram MASTERMINE This set of devices (figure 3), which has already been installed in one of the selected methane capture points at the Pniówek coal mine, allows for remote viewing of the parameters of the flowing gas and for automatic regulation of the flow of the captured methane-air mixture. The solution currently being tested will facilitate the work of the mine's ventilation services and allow for a faster response to changes in atmospheric pressure, which will ultimately contribute to a reduction of methane emissions into the atmosphere. In addition, the solution proposed in the project can be implemented in all methane intakes in all mines using methane drainage. 5. METHANE UTILIZATION – TOWARDS THE FUTURE The average methane drainage efficiency of JSW S.A. mines is 35-40%. This indicator is most significantly affected by the effectiveness of methane drainage in mining workings. The effectiveness of methane drainage in the longwalls operated by JSW S.A. in 2024 was 59%. Currently, two methods of methane drainage in mining workings are used: a) Classic methane drainage – degassing using drainage holes 60 to 120 m long and 65-95 mm in diameter, made from wall galleries. The methane drainage efficiency achieved ranges from 20 to 60%.
