297 The Ichuña hydrographic unit comprises the districts of San Antonio (province and department of Puno) and Ichuña (General Sánchez Cerro province, Moquegua department). According to the National Institute of Statistics and Informatics (INEI), the population of the Ichuña district is projected to reach 2,676 inhabitants by 2026. This territory defines the scope of METRHI, based on the political, social, and environmental criteria used for its delimitation. The Ichuña district has a Human Development Index (HDI) of 0.63, a life expectancy of 89.65 years, and a monthly per capita household income of PEN 826.2 (UNDP, 2025). Local livelihoods are primarily based on livestock farming and small-scale family agriculture. In 2025, the district registered 906 agricultural producers, while agricultural land represented less than 2% of the total district area. Potatoes, yellow maize, broad beans, alfalfa, quinoa, and oca were among the main products contributing to the Gross Value of Agricultural Production (GVP) (MIDAGRI, 2025). Figure 2 - Location of METRHI within SNGRH The METRHI area also includes the territories of the following rural communities: Calazaya, Crucero, Anchallani, San Juan de Miraflores, Centro Ichuña, San Juan de Yanahuara, San José de Humalso, Totorani, Condorani Santa Clara, Sicuani, Chaje, Santiago de Chucapaca, Huaychuni, Santa Cruz de Oyo Oyo Maycunaca, Antajahua, Jucumarine, and Corire.
