This framework encompasses constitutional provisions, federal laws, and regulatory instruments that govern all aspects of mining activities, from exploration to closure. The current system, anchored by the 1967 Mining Code and modernised through recent legislation, establishes five distinct mining regimes and is overseen by the National Mining Agency (ANM). The framework reflects Brazil’s approach to balancing national interests in mineral resources with private sector operational efficiency while addressing environmental sustainability and ensuring equitable distribution of mining benefits across federal, state, and municipal levels.
