Track 1: AI and Data-Driven Decision Making

Figure 6 – Neutralizing Agents Present in the Materials Used. Source: WES (2023). 3.4 Forecasting of Sulfide and Neutralizing Agent Consumption and Depletion The developed predictive models enabled the evaluation of sulfide and neutralizing agent depletion scenarios, providing a forward-looking perspective on the system’s geochemical behavior. Figure 7 shows that, under certain scenarios, the depletion of neutralizing agents occurs earlier than that of sulfides, generating an imbalance that increases the risk of acid rock drainage (ARD) formation. This finding is critical for decision-making, as it allows the anticipation of adverse conditions before they manifest in the field. Consequently, preventive strategies can be designed, optimizing resource allocation and avoiding late-stage corrective measures with higher associated costs.
