1.5) GPS Based Vehicle Tracking System GPS based Vehicle Tracking System for real-time monitoring/tracking of movement of coal transportation vehicles has been implemented across command area of WCL. The GPS based VTS portal has mapped all the geo-fences of boundaries of all Open Cast Mines mine & Railway sidings along with coal transportation routes. All the vehicles are registered and equipped with a GPS device and also assigned to ply within a particular route. Any deviation from the assigned route results in generation of alerts (SMS & email) which are sent to the designated officials of the concerned mine for enquiry and action. A screen captured GPS route Map/Geo-fence from the portal as shown below is selfexplainatory. 1.6) Drone based virtual inspection of opencast coal mines • WCL has implemented a system of real time surveys/inspection its open cast Mines. Drone based camera provides a bird’s-eye view providing approach to inaccessible areas in a mine. A multidisciplinary team of experts inspects mine faces, haul roads, OB dump, topography of the mine, HEMM, coal stocks, railway sidings, plantations, afforestation etc. • The system has contributed significantly to mining operations, safety & Figure 4 Figure 5
