81 ROLE OF WOMEN IN MINING Chuanrong Su1 1China National Coal Association ABSTRACT International exchange and cooperation play a crucial role in China's coal mining development. As the world's largest coal-producing and consuming country, China faces multiple challenges, including ensuring energy security, reducing coal mine accidents, and promoting low-carbon and sustainable transformation. China has actively introduced, digested, absorbed, and re-innovated, significantly improving the level in related fields. Over the past 30 years, China’s coal mining industry has undergone significant changes. The number of coal mines has decreased from more than 80,000 to approximately 4,300, while the annual coal production increased from 1.36 billion tons to 4.83 billion tons in 2025. Large enterprises have achieved a mechanization rate of over 99%, markedly reducing accidents and occupational diseases. Through persistent efforts and international exchange and cooperation platforms, the author have promoted China's coal industry achieve efficient, low-emission and sustainable development. INTRODUCTION Since the 1990s, the author has worked at the China National Coal Mine Safety Training Center and was responsible for the operation and management of the International Labour Organization's China Occupational Safety and Health Information Center. During this period, the author was dispatched by UNDP program as visiting scholar at U.S. Mine Safety and Health Administration (MSHA). Later, the author was transferred to China State Administration of Work Safety(SAWS) to oversee international cooperation and exchange. Through implementing intergovernmental cooperation projects such as those between China and the United States, Australia, Europe, and Japan, the author learned from and adopted the mine safety and health supervision systems and mine emergency rescue systems of Europe and America, introduced advanced technologies and equipment such as comprehensive mining and tunneling, and improved the laws and regulations on coal mine safety supervision and mine emergency rescue in China, thereby promoting the improvement of coal mine safety conditions.
