Methodologically, the study operationalizes Standing’s (1997) “skill reproduction security” concept within just transition frameworks and addresses the integration gap that recent Mining 4.0 reviews have explicitly identified (Lund et al., 2024). By illuminating contextual factors that determine learning effectiveness—rather than searching only where it is convenient to look—the diagnostic-before-design approach offers an alternative to the “streetlamp effect” (MacMahon et al., 2024) that characterizes current mining workforce development practice. Next steps include longitudinal validation of projected transition probabilities through ARF implementation monitoring, cross-site replication of the productivity model in analogous mining contexts, and pilot deployment of the adaptive learning system with pre-post competency measurement. The adaptive system’s modular architecture—common core plus dual-track specialization—is designed for contextual calibration to other Mining 4.0 transitions where existing workforces must develop new competencies. The broader aspiration is to demonstrate that workforce renaissance, not replacement, constitutes the responsible path for mining organizations navigating technological transformation.
