Track 7: Andean Flagship Sessions

The transformation began with STRACON’s organizational culture, reflected in operational standards and practices aligned with its values of safety, integrity, passion, and value creation. In parallel, an effective relationship and synergy strategy was established with Anglo American at Quellaveco. This client–contractor integration approach strengthened cohesion in a complex, large-scale mining project and enabled its successful implementation. Methodological Approach to Autonomous Fleet Implementation STRACON implemented a systematic knowledge management methodology that began with the collection of global standards for autonomous truck operations. Together with Anglo American, the team then developed operational protocols and work standards designed to drive a shift in mindset across the mining operation. This required unlearning traditional fleet operation methods and relearning how to work under the new rules of autonomy. The methodology was designed as a transferable framework, applicable to both greenfield and brownfield mining operations facing similar technological and organizational challenges. A structured transition process enabled the team to gradually move away from established work patterns and adapt to operating alongside autonomous trucks and a fully digitalized mine. The collaborative leadership demonstrated by STRACON and Anglo American was essential to success — their shared belief in the initiative and common goal of leaving a legacy were evident throughout the leadership and training teams. This structured transition supported the alignment of technical implementation with change management, ensuring operational continuity while building trust among the workforces, as shown in Figure 1.
