Located at the Parque de Las Leyendas Zoo in Lima, this replica of an underground mine didactically demonstrates the mining processes, as well as Peru’s mineral resources, their applications and their importance in our daily lives.
A highlight of the site is a replica of an underground mine, where visitors can descend several meters below ground to witness how minerals are extracted. All its facilities are designed to didactically demonstrate the mining processes, covering everything from the formation and extraction of minerals to their commercialization and the eventual closure of the mine.
For that purpose, the Mine Model is equipped with automated displays, an exhibition of real minerals, artistic and recreational activities, among others. Visitors can also meet the mascots of the Mine Model: Muki, the Mine Elf; the Miner Guinea Pig, and Teo the Miner. It is important to note that the mine model complies with all the relevant regulations and safety measures. This was verified during a recent visit by representatives of the Municipality of Lima, who took a guided tour of the mine.
